‘I have a dream …’

July 19, 2010

At the risk of offending other admirers of Dr. Luther-King Jr. (1963), ‘I have a dream’ … that all school-aged children in Australia will have access to a library that is:

  • physically warm, comfortable and welcoming
  • staffed by an adequate number of qualified people
  • stocked with an easily-accessible range of up-to-date resources (and some ‘old classics’)
  • the learning centre and beating heart of the school
  • a place that all teachers and students consider their own
  • in possession of a smartboard and other essential ICTs
  • a place where learning innovation happens in a school
  • frequently visited by an interested principal
  • busy and buzzing when open at lunchtime
  • everyone’s favourite part of the school

At the end of ETL401, I will re-visit this list and see how my dream has evolved during the semester.

King, M. L. (1963).  Speech delivered 28 August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C.
